UAAP: UST defends home court, sweeps UE in men’s and women’s volleyball
The University of Santo Tomas stood its ground at home, sweeping the University of the East in both the men’s and women’s volleyball tournaments of UAAP Season 88 on Saturday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion in Manila.
In the women’s division, the Golden Tigresses dominated the Lady Warriors, 25-11, 25-14, 25-14, to even their record at 2-2.
Angge Poyos and Jonna Perdido scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, to lead UST in the straight-sets victory, which was completed in one hour and 18 minutes.
Khy Cepada paced UE with nine points as the Lady Warriors remained winless through four matches.
“[I’m] happy and proud because slowly, we’re starting to adapt to each other and to what we want to achieve. We know we still have a lot to improve on, but the good thing is we got a good result today,” said UST head coach Shaq Delos Santos.
Earlier in the men’s division, the Golden Spikers also swept the Red Warriors, 25-18, 25-22, 25-22, to improve to 3-1.
Josh Ybañez finished with 13 points built on 11 attacks, one block, and one ace, while Trevor Valera contributed 10 points for UST.
Raquim Aceron scored 12 points, while Mark Lee Buddin added 10 in the straight-sets loss as UE fell to 1-3.
