PVL: Akari stuns Cignal, PLDT bounces back with sweep of ZUS Coffee
Akari surged to its second straight win while PLDT got back on track after defeating separate foes in the 2026 PVL Open Conference on Saturday at the Filoil Centre.
The Chargers turned back Cignal to complete a massive 25-23, 20-25, 11-25, 25-23, 15-12 upset victory, extending their winning streak while handing the Super Spikers just their second loss in the tournament.
Ivy Lacsina punished Cignal with a double-double outing of 20 points and 11 receptions while Fifi Sharma dropped five blocks to finish with 16 markers. Eli Soyud and Ced Domingo chipped in 14 points each.
Akari improved to 2-3 while Cignal dropped to 4-2 despite a 23-point performance each from Erika Santos and Vanie Gandler.
"Siguro mas kumapit lang ako sa mga kasama ko talaga and siyempre, team effort 'to e. Ayokong masayang 'yung pinagpaguran ng mga teammates ko and ng coaches ko," Lacsina said.
"So wala nang reason para hindi ilaban."
Meanwhile, PLDT turned to Savi Davison and Kim Kianna Dy to sweep ZUS Coffee, 25-23, 25-23, 25-13, as it regained its winning ways following a previous loss to Cignal.
Davison was solid on both ends with 17 points and six digs while Dy shone with 15 markers, helping PLDT improve to 4-1 as ZUS fell to a 1-5 card.
"'Yung mindset namin ay hindi 'yung may i-prove eh, pero 'yung bumalik lang kami sa sistema namin na disiplina and 'yung focus na kailangan," PLDT head coach Rald Ricafort said.
"At saka 'yung mga times na dikit katulad kanina, kung paano kami magre-respond doon. Nakapag-respond kami."
