UAAP: La Salle, Adamson sweep UE, UST in women’s volleyball

De La Salle University and Adamson University swept their respective opponents on Saturday in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

La Salle needed less than an hour and a half to dispatch University of the East, 25-15, 25-20, 25-19, improving to 5-0 and remaining unbeaten in the tournament.

Shevana Laput, returning after being under the weather, contributed nine points and four digs, while Angel Canino and Lilay del Castillo added 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Lady Spikers.

“Pinaalalahanan lang ang team na respeto lang sa kalaban, kaya medyo hindi naging maganda ‘yung outcome, although nanalo. Unang-una, ang dami naming errors, especially services. Kailangan pang magtrabaho,” said La Salle assistant coach Noel Orcullo, as the Lady Spikers committed 20 errors, including nine in the second set.

For UE, Khy Cepada scored 14 points as the Lady Warriors remained winless after six matches.

Meanwhile, Adamson University swept University of Santo Tomas, 27-25, 25-22, 25-12.

Frances Mordi led the Lady Falcons with 20 points and 10 receptions, while Shaina Nitura added 22 points as Adamson improved to 3-2.

For UST, Reg Jurado finished with 18 points while Avril Brown chipped in 10, as the Golden Tigresses slipped to 2-3.
