UAAP: FEU inches closer to men’s volleyball first-round sweep, NU beats Ateneo

Far Eastern University moved a win away from completing a first-round sweep after a straight-sets victory over the University of the Philippines, 25-14, 25-22, 28-26, on Sunday in the UAAP Season 88 men’s volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Amet Bituin starred with 17 points built on 15 attacks and two blocks, along with seven receptions and four digs, while Doula Ndongala added 12 points highlighted by eight blocks as the Tamaraws improved to a 6-0 record.

Olayemi Raheem paced the Fighting Maroons with 16 points in the losing effort as UP slipped to 2-3.

Earlier, defending champion National University defeated Ateneo de Manila University in straight sets, 25-22, 25-23, 25-22.

Jade Disquitado led the Bulldogs with 16 points and 11 receptions, while Buds Buddin and Leo Ordiales contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively, as NU improved to 5-1.

Kennedy Batas finished with 13 points and 10 receptions for the Blue Eagles, who dropped to 2-4.
