PVL: PLDT sweeps Galeries to take solo top spot; Farm Fresh survives Choco Mucho

PLDT and Farm Fresh scored contrasting victories on Tuesday as the 2026 PVL Open Conference approaches the final stretch of its preliminary round.

The High Speed Hitters shrugged off a Set 2 rally by upset-hungry Galeries to complete a 25-18, 25-22, 25-17 win and seize the solo top spot with a 6-1 card. 

Savi Davison and Mika Reyes led the rout with the Filipino-Canadian outside spiker posting 21 points and seven receptions and the veteran middle blocker chipping in 10 markers built on four blocks as they sent the Highrisers to a 2-5 card. 

The win moved PLDT closer to a ticket to the qualifying round, where a victory will send the High Speed Hitters to the single-round semifinals. 

"Before the game, ang reminders [ko] lang [sa kanila] ay ibigay 'yung respect sa Galeries lalo this conference na very capable 'yung lineup. Nakita rin namin 'yung mga upsets nila sa ibang teams," PLDT head coach Rald Ricafort said.

"So 'yung game naging about sa disiplina na gusto namin i-impose and hindi kailangan maglaro ng extra special, kung ano lang talaga 'yung game namin."

(Before the game, my reminders to them were to show respect to Galeries especially this conference where they have a very capable lineup. We've seen their upsets of other teams... So the game became about the discipline we want to impose and we didn't need to play extra special, just what our actual game was.)

In the second game, Farm Fresh needed an extended match to return to its winning ways, escaping Choco Mucho with a grueling 21-25, 25-22, 16-25, 25-18, 15-9 victory.

Several heroes emerged for the Foxies in the upset with Trisha Tubu shining with 22 points, Ces Molina pouring in 17 markers, and Royse Tubino sparking the Set 5 breakaway to finish with 14 as they climbed to 3-4. 

Farm Fresh broke a 4-all deadlock in the fifth frame by unleashing a 5-1 run for a 9-5 cushion, but Sisi Rondina unloaded a kill from the left pit to provide some life to the Flying Titans. 

But Farm Fresh had enough firepower to stop the Choco Mucho comeback attempt with Molina, Tubino, and Tubu fueling a 4-1 blast capped by Tubu's back-to-back blocks on Rondina for a comfortable 13-6 advantage. 

A miscommunication from Choco Mucho sent Farm Fresh to the match point, 14-7, before Tubu finished it off by swinging from the right side. 

Kat Tolentino and Rondina paced Choco Mucho with 22 points each while EyaLaure chimed in with 15 markers as they fell to 3-4.
