UAAP: La Salle outlasts Adamson in five-setter to stay perfect in women's volleyball
De La Salle University outlasted Adamson University, 19-25, 25-20, 25-21, 13-25, 15-5, to remain perfect in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Shevana Laput powered the Lady Spikers with 26 points built on 19 attacks, six blocks, and an ace, while Angel Canino added 19 points as La Salle secured its sixth straight win.
For La Salle deputy coach Noel Orcullo, the match was a test of character for the Lady Spikers/
"Nung natalo kami sa fourth set, sinabihan lang namin ‘yung mga bata na character ito. Dito na mailalabas kung ano ‘yung pinaghirapan niyo; dito n'yo masusubok kung ano ‘yung meron kayo,” said La Salle assistant coach Noel Orcullo.
“Nakita naman namin na gusto nilang lumaban, na gusto nilang manalo. Talagang ginusto nila.”
The victory spoiled a strong outing from Adamson's Shaina Nitura, who tallied 21 points along with 10 digs and 17 receptions, as well as Frances Mordi’s 22-point eruption for the Lady Falcons.
Despite the effort, Adamson slipped to a 3-3 record in the standings.
