UAAP: Ateneo sweeps UE to break through in women’s volleyball

Ateneo de Manila University claimed its first win in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament after sweeping the University of the East, 25-19, 25-23, 25-16, on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Jihan Chuatico scored 13 points built on seven attacks, five blocks, and an ace, while Ana Hermosura added 10 points and seven receptions as the Blue Eagles completed the match in around an hour and a half. Geezel Tsunashima and Donna de Leon, meanwhile, chipped in 10 points apiece.

“Today, our team stayed aggressive, played smart, and turned our opportunities into points. We’re not the tallest team, but our blocking and defense played a key role,” said Ateneo head coach Sergio Veloso.

Khy Cepada led UE with 13 points, 11 receptions, and seven digs, while Van Bangayan added 10 points as the Lady Warriors remained winless in the tournament.
