UAAP: UST Golden Tigresses sweep FEU to close first round with back-to-back wins

The University of Santo Tomas closed out its first-round campaign in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament with back-to-back victories after sweeping Far Eastern University, 25-17, 25-18, 25-20, on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Angge Poyos led the way for the Golden Tigresses with 16 points built on 15 attacks and a block, while also tallying nine receptions. Avril Bron and Reg Jurado added 10 points each as UST snapped FEU’s three-game winning streak.

“Nag-start ’yan sa training namin last two days, talagang quality ‘yung inensayo kasi hindi biro si FEU. Ni-remind lang namin ‘yung players na lahat ng inensayo kailangan lumabas sa game,” said UST assistant coach Yani Fernandez.

On the other side, Jaz Ellarina paced the Lady Tamaraws with 10 points, while Gerz Petallo contributed nine points and 11 receptions before leaving the court in the third set due to an apparent arm injury following a collision with a teammate.

UST and FEU now share a similar 4-3 record.
