UAAP: Adamson Lady Falcons sweep UP, claim share of third at end of first round

Adamson University swept the University of the Philippines, 25-18, 25-16, 25-19, to claim a share of third place at the end of the first round of the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.

The Lady Falcons improved to 4-3, their best first-round record since Season 85, when the Jerry Yee-mentored squad finished the opening round at 5-2. Adamson now joins Far Eastern University and the University of Santo Tomas in the third to fifth spots.

“We are really glad na ngayon since paghawak ko sa kanila, ito ‘yung best record for the first round. But still marami pa kaming iwo-work on para sa second round ready kami ulit to compete again,” said Adamson head coach JP Yude.

Frances Mordi led the Lady Falcons with 18 points, while Shaina Nitura added 14 points and four receptions.

Sarah Ali paced the Fighting Maroons with eight points, while Joan Monares and Jelai Gajero chipped in seven points each.
