PBA issues fines, suspensions for Glenn Khobuntin, Jaylen Johnson for on-court altercation
The PBA Commissioner’s Office has handed fines and suspensions to TNT’s Glenn Khobuntin and Rain or Shine import Jaylen Johnson following a physical altercation during their Friday match in the Commissioner’s Cup.
The two punched each other in the fourth quarter of the match where Rain or Shine won, 112-109.
Khobuntin received a two-game suspension and a P70,000 fine, while Johnson was suspended for one game and fined P50,000.
In a statement released by the league on Saturday, Commissioner Willie Marcial said Khobuntin expressed regret over the incident.
“Nagpapa-sorry siya kay Johnson. At saka sa lahat, sa fans, sa PBA family. Mag-apologize din siya sa mga teammates niya pagpunta niya ng practice,” said Marcial.
“Parang bumaril ka niyan. Pagkatapos nun, nasa huli ang pagsisisi,” added Marcial about Khobuntin’s case.
Khobuntin had previously stated he would accept whatever consequences he might face.
Johnson also again issued an apology for his role in the altercation.
Khobuntin’s suspension will begin Sunday when TNT faces Meralco, while Johnson will miss Rain or Shine’s game against the Bolts on Friday.
