UAAP: Poyos, Jurado lead UST past Ateneo for third straight win

The University of Santo Tomas defeated Ateneo de Manila University, 21-25, 25-11, 25-22, 25-12, on Saturday in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Angge Poyos spearheaded the Golden Tigresses with 25 points, while Reg Jurado delivered an all-around effort with 20 points and 21 digs in the four-set victory.

With the win, UST notched its third straight victory and improved to a 5-3 record.

UST assistant coach Yani Fernandez said the team regrouped after a sluggish opening set.

“We reminded the players to just execute what they needed to do. We had a slow start in the first set and allowed them to take it. They needed that wake-up call, but they responded well and showed a strong bounce-back,” Fernandez said.

Ana Hermosura led Ateneo with 13 points, 12 digs, and nine receptions in the loss.
