PVL: Creamline, Farm Fresh clinch Qualifying Round berths
Creamline and Farm Fresh secured spots in the qualifying round of the PVL All-Filipino Conference following their respective victories on Saturday at the Filoil Centre in San Juan.
Creamline outlasted Cignal in a five-set thriller, 25-19, 25-20, 15-25, 26-28, 16-14, to finish the preliminary round in third place with a 6-3 record.
Veteran Alyssa Valdez led the Cool Smashers with 22 points, along with 13 digs and 13 receptions, while Dij Rodriguez added 19 points.
The win overshadowed a triple-double performance from Cignal’s Vanie Gandler, who tallied 26 points, 19 digs, and 15 receptions. Despite the loss, the HD Spikers still secured the No. 2 spot with a similar 6-3 record.
Earlier, Farm Fresh also booked a qualifying round berth after defeating Akari, 25-19, 25-14, 23-25, 25-17.
Royse Tubino led the Foxies with 21 points, while Ces Molina contributed 18 points, 11 digs, and nine receptions. Trisha Tubu added 19 points as Farm Fresh closed the preliminaries at 5-4, good for fourth place.
Eli Soyud and Ivy Lacsina scored 17 and 15 points, respectively, for Akari, which also finished at 5-4 and will compete in the play-in semifinals.
In another match, Capital1 defeated Galeries, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 26-24, behind Bella Belen’s 23 points, 15 receptions, and 14 digs, along with France Ronquillo’s 20 points.
Despite the win, Capital1 ended the preliminary round at 4-5 in eighth place.
Aiza Maizo-Pontillas led Galeries with 17 points as the High Risers dropped to 2-7, finishing ninth.
Both Capital1 and Galeries will compete in the play-in quarterfinals.
