UAAP: NU deals FEU’s first loss in men’s volleyball; UP beats UE
National University handed Far Eastern University its first loss in the UAAP Season 88 men’s volleyball tournament, 28-26, 17-25, 24-26, 25-11, 15-8, on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Leo Ordiales dropped a career-high 30 points on 24 attacks, three blocks, and three aces, along with six digs, while Buds Buddin had 25 points built on 19 attacks, three blocks, and three aces, along with eight receptions and three digs in the win that the Bulldogs secured after more than two hours.
“Good game talaga. Both sides naman sobrang ganda ng pinakita,” said NU head coach Dante Alinsunurin.
“Pagdating sa dulo, natiyaga, and ‘yung pasensya ni Buddin lumabas, naging maganda ‘yung resulta ng game.”
Mikko Espartero had 22 points and 21 receptions to lead FEU in the losing effort, while Dryx Saavedra added 18 points for the Tamaraws.
NU improved to 7-2, while FEU remained on top of the standings despite slipping to 8-1.
Earlier, the University of the Philippines defeated the University of the East, 25-22, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20.
Olayemi Raheem scored 20 points, while Tommy Castrodes added 15 as the Fighting Maroons improved to 3-6.
Roy Gabriel Piojo had 25 points and 13 receptions, while Raquim Aceron finished with 17 points and 32 receptions as UE slipped to 1-8.
