UAAP: UP snaps four-game skid, keeps UE winless

The University of the Philippines swept the University of the East, 25-21, 25-15, 25-14, in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Fighting Maroons returned to the win column after losing four straight games, while also keeping the Lady Warriors winless and extending their skid to 23 losses dating back to last season.

“We had some problems with Casiey Dongallo’s injury. It took us a couple of games before we could find the balance. It’s not been easy to reorganize; slowly, we’re getting there,” said Fighting Maroons head coach Fabio Menta.

Kianne Olango led the Diliman-based squad with 18 points, seven receptions, and two digs, while Jelai Gajero added 11 points, 12 digs, and eight receptions.

Khy Cepada, meanwhile, led the Lady Warriors with 13 points, 18 receptions, and 10 digs.

With the win, UP improved to 4-5, while UE slipped to 0-9.
