UAAP: La Salle downs UST to boost women’s volleyball Final Four chances
De La Salle University defeated University of Santo Tomas, 25-12, 18-25, 25-23, 25-14, in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
With the victory, the Lady Spikers improved to 9-0, inching closer to a Final Four berth.
After the Golden Tigresses took Set 2, the España-based squad surged to a 20-12 lead in Set 3. La Salle, however, mounted a decisive 13-3 run to steal the set, highlighted by a block from Lilay Del Castillo, an ace from Shane Reterta, and a crosscourt hit by Angel Canino.
The Lady Spikers carried that momentum into the fourth set, racing to a 7-0 start before sealing the win.
“During the third set, rinemind ko lang yung mga bata. Sinabi ko na dahil aggressive ‘yung kalaban, so kailangan lang na bawat situation, ilaban natin ‘yung bawat situation. Gawan ng paraan kung medyo hindi bagay dumadating sa ini-expect nila. Ilaban lang hanggang sa mapanalo ‘yung situation, and nag-work naman. Unti-unting iginapang ‘yung score hanggang dumating sa endgame,” La Salle head coach Ramil de Jesus said.
“Ilaban lang ang bawat situation.”
