PVL: Cignal outlasts Creamline, PLDT downs Farm Fresh to reach All-Filipino semis
Cignal and PLDT secured their spots in the PVL All-Filipino Conference semifinals after dispatching Creamline and Farm Fresh, respectively, in the qualifying round on Thursday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Cignal Super Spikers outlasted the Creamline Cool Smashers in a five-set thriller, 25-21, 24-26, 18-25, 25-22, 17-15.
With the loss, Creamline drops to the play-in stage, where it will face the winner of the play-in semifinal between Akari and Choco Mucho.
Erika Santos led Cignal with 26 points built on 23 attacks, while Vanie Gandler delivered a triple-double of 22 points, 28 receptions, and 13 digs. Setter Gel Cayuna orchestrated the offense with 35 excellent sets.
For Creamline, Bernadeth Pons scored 20 points, while Alyssa Valdez added 18 points, along with 20 receptions and 19 digs. Three more players finished in double figures: Pangs Panaga with 14, Tots Carlos with 12, and Bea de Leon with 11. Jia de Guzman tallied 31 excellent sets in the loss.
Earlier, PLDT High Speed Hitters also punched their ticket to the semifinals after defeating the Farm Fresh Foxies, 18-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-22.
Savi Davison powered PLDT with 22 points and 11 receptions, while Kianna Dy chipped in 19 points. Majoy Baron and Alleiah Malaluan contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively, as setter Kim Fajardo registered 28 excellent sets.
On the other side, Trisha Tubu paced Farm Fresh with 25 points, while Ces Molina and Royse Tubino added 14 and 10, respectively.
Farm Fresh will await the winner of the Nxled-Galeries play-in matchup for its next assignment.
