UAAP: La Salle Lady Spikers sweep UP, clinch Final Four spot

De La Salle University swept the University of the Philippines, 25-15, 25-18, 25-20, on Sunday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion to remain perfect in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament and clinch a spot in the Final Four.

It will be La Salle’s 16th straight postseason appearance since Season 71.

“Sa akin kasi, basta may dumating, magpi-prepare lang kami every game. Kung ano man ang standing namin, secondary na lang ’yon, result na lang ’yon. Basta sabi ko lang sa mga bata, maghanda lang tayo, bigyan ng respeto ang bawat kalaban, although nadaanan na natin nung first round,” said Lady Spikers head coach Ramil de Jesus.

Shevana Laput scored 16 points from 14 attacks and two blocks, while Angel Canino also had 16 points built on 13 attacks, one block, and one ace, along with six digs, as La Salle improved to 10-0.

Nina Ytang had eight points for UP, while Kianne Olango added seven, as the Fighting Maroons slipped to 4-6.

Earlier, the Green Spikers bounced back at the expense of the UP men’s volleyball team, 25-22, 25-23, 18-25, 26-24.

Yoyong Mendoza tallied 17 points and 10 digs, while Issa Ousseini also scored 17 points, as the Green Spikers improved to 5-5.

Olayemi Raheem led UP with 24 points, while Abram Robles and Angelo Lipata added 12 and 10 points, respectively, as the team dropped to 3-7.
