UAAP: UST Golden Tigresses bounce back vs FEU; Tamaraws secure Final Four spot in men’s volleyball
University of Santo Tomas (UST) bounced back at the expense of Far Eastern University (FEU), 25-17, 25-17, 18-25, 25-17, in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at the Quadricentennial Pavilion.
With the win, UST improved to 6-4, moving into a three-way tie for third place with FEU and Adamson University.
After dropping the third set, the Golden Tigresses raced to a 20-12 lead in the fourth before fending off the Lady Tamaraws to secure the victory.
“The complications in the standings make this win very important for us. It serves as a band-aid solution for now. We always remind the players to keep moving forward because we can’t do anything about past results,” said UST deputy coach Yani Fernandez.
Angge Poyos led the Tigresses with 18 points, along with seven digs and five receptions. Reg Jurado added 16 points, while Avril Bron and Janna Perdido chipped in 10 points each.
Faida Bakanke paced FEU with 13 points, while Lovely Lopez contributed 11.
In the men’s division, FEU returned to the win column after defeating UST, 25-16, 34-36, 25-17, 25-18, to clinch a Final Four berth.
Dryx Saavedra led the Tamaraws with 21 points built on 17 attacks, two blocks, and two aces. Amet Bituin and Mikko Espartero added 15 and 13 points, respectively, as FEU improved to 9-1.
Josh Ybañez led UST with 21 points, eight receptions, and two digs, while Joncriz Ayco added 15. Despite the loss, the Golden Spikers now hold a 6-4 record.
