UAAP: La Salle outlasts NU; UST sweeps UP in men’s volleyball
De La Salle University outlasted National University in a five-set thriller, 16-25, 26-24, 20-25, 26-24, 17-15, in UAAP Season 88 men’s volleyball action on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The win denied the Bulldogs (10-3) an outright twice-to-beat advantage, which will now hinge on their upcoming faceoff against the University of Santo Tomas (9-4) on Wednesday.
The Green Spikers, meanwhile, closed their campaign with a 6-8 record.
Yoyong Mendoza scored 17 points, all on attacks, while Chris Hernandez also had 17 markers, along with 19 receptions and 12 digs for La Salle.
The victory spoiled Leo Ordiales’ 28-point performance for NU. Jade Disquitado added 22 points, 11 receptions, and nine digs, while Buds Buddin contributed 16 points, 10 receptions, and eight digs.
Earlier, UST swept the University of the Philippines, 25-14, 25-17, 25-16.
Josh Ybañez led the Golden Spikers with 17 points and eight receptions, while Trevor Valera chipped in 11 points.
Gray Baylon had nine points for UP, which ended its season with a 3-11 record.
