UAAP: Why no Lady Spiker stood at the center during the team’s Archer stance formation

Every time De La Salle University’s campaign ends in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament over the recent years, fans look forward to seeing which players stand at the center of the team’s Archer stance formation.

Those familiar with the tradition know that the players who stand at the center of the circle are usually those who have already played their final season, with the team paying tribute to its departing seniors.

However, during Saturday’s championship-clinching game in the Season 88 finals, no Lady Spiker stood at the center of the formation, with Angel Canino, Amie Provido, Lyka de Leon, and Shevana Laput still eligible to play for one more year.

Does this mean they will still play next year?

“Sa ngayon kaming lahat, undecided pa. That’s why walang pumunta sa gitna,” Canino said.

“Bilin ko kasi ‘yun… kasi wala pang ga-graduate,” quipped head coach Ramil de Jesus.

De Jesus, however, clarified that he does not stop his players from pursuing what they want for their careers.

“Never akong nakipag-usap sa mga players ko na mag-stay,” de Jesus said. “Merong ibang tao siguro dapat para mag-convince sa kanila pero hindi ako.”
