Creamline turns back Nxled for winning start in PVL On Tour

Michele Gumabao reminded everyone why she is part of the league's elite players, starring in Creamline's 25-18, 25-23, 16-25, 25-19 win against Nxled in the 2026 PVL On Tour on Wednesday in Ilagan, Isabela.

The veteran opposite hitter dropped 18 points including three in the final stretch of Set 4 as the Cool Smashers got a winning start to their new campaign.

Lorie Bernardo chipped in 13 points while Jema Galanza and Rosemarie Vargas posted eight markers each to help the multi-titled club turn back a mighty fight from the Chameleons.

After dropping the third set and missing out on a sweep, Creamline regrouped in the fourth as Kyle Negrito and Sheena Toring combined for a block on Chiara Permentilla to spark a 12-6 advantage.

But Nxled mounted a fightback behind seasoned middle blocker MJ Phillips, whose back-to-back quick hammers sparked a 7-2 rampage and pulled the Chameleons to just one point, 14-13.

The Cool Smashers, though, stayed cool and composed. Galanza and Vargas took over as Creamline once again raced to a five-point advantage, 20-15, before Gumabao unloaded the finishing blow with a pair of opposite kills for a 23-18 lead.

Creamline reached match point at 24-18 after Toring hammered home a quick attack from the middle before Bernardo punished the Nxled block from the right wing to seal the victory.

Phillips led Nxled with 13 points while EJ Carino posted 12 points and 14 receptions in the loss.
