Cambodia stuns Indonesia to capture maiden SEA V Cup title

Cambodia continued its rise in the regional level by stunning heavy favorite Indonesia in thriller, 25-23, 28-26, 23-25, 22-25, 15-11, to reign supreme in Leg 1 of the 2026 SEA V Cup on Sunday in Candon.

Cambodia, one of the fast rising nations in men's volleyball in Southeast Asia, captured its first-ever SEA V Cup title after making its tournament debut just last year.

Voeurn Veasna led the way for the Cambodians with 29 points built on 26 attacks, two aces, and one block as Cambodia finally got one over Indonesia, which toppled them at home during the 2023 Southeast Asian Games gold medal round in Phnom Penh.

Kuon Mom chipped in 27 markers anchored on 22 attacks, four blocks, and one block to complete the victory, one that saw Cambodia improve from a winless 0-8 outing last year to a historic title run this time around.

They beat an Indonesian side that was coming off a championship feat at the 2026 AVC Men's Volleyball Cup last month. There, Indonesia ended the group stage with a 3-1 card before outlasting host India in the semifinals and sweeping South Korea in the finals.

Indonesia, which features three leg titles in SEA V Cup and 12 gold medals in SEA Games, was led by Halim Farhan who dropped 23 points on 21 attacks and two aces, while Boy Arnez Arabi had 22 points, all on attacks.

In the battle for third place, reigning SEA Games gold medalist and powerhouse Thailand seized the bronze after a 23-35, 30-28, 25-20, 28-26 victory over Vietnam.

Last Saturday, Alas Pilipinas Men swept Myanmar, 25-21, 28-26, 25-22, to settle for a fifth-place finish ahead of Leg 2 that starts this week in Jakarta, Indonesia.
