BORN TO BE WILD
“Mal of Mindanao” and “Hammerhead Search”
Series Finale this Wednesday, March 20

For days, Doc Nielsen and his team have been on the search for “Mal”, an elusive creature found in the forests of Mindanao. The locals, who gave the animal its curious name, say that it is very shy and likes to hide beneath the foliage. True enough, the search for Mal has been challenging, with Doc Nielsen and his team slipping and sliding their way through ravine-riddled trails just to document the creature.

It is said that “Mal” is more popularly known to inhabit the Visayas, but that it was recently recorded in Mindanao as well. This week, the identity of “Mal” is finally revealed, along with rare footage of this animal in the wild.

Doc Ferds Recio and his team realize early on in their expedition that finding the hammerhead shark in the middle of the open blue sea would be a challenge. But as wildlife documentarists, they take the risk of coming home empty-handed, just to take a shot at getting to know this amazing shark. And like any wildlife team, they realize that with nature, one never truly goes home empty-handed.

With stunning footage of hundreds of tuna, curious-looking jellyfish and a shot of millions of plankton glowing under the sea, the team’s trip has been well worth it. But back in the sea, hope is kindled as one of the divers makes a hand signal that could only mean one thing: “shark!”
