As part of its anti-corruption efforts, the Bureau of Immigration on Saturday announced the reshuffling of 19 officials at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and seven other airports nationwide.
BI OIC Siegfred Mison named 12 immigration officers to key posts at the NAIA’s four terminals, and designated seven as acting head supervisors of the other airports.
“This is just the start of a major revamp that was initiated to further improve our operations in the airports, deter corruption and bolster the campaign against human trafficking and human smuggling in our ports of entry,” Mison said in a news release.
The new assignments include:
- Immigration officer Ma. Carmelita Vitan, acting chief of the BI airport operations division (AOD). The AOD oversees BI activities at the NAIA and other international airports.
- Eddie Santelices and Chona Marie Keyser, AOD deputy chiefs for operations and administration, respectively.
- Atty. Floro Balato Jr., designated head of the travel control and enforcement unit (TCEU).
- Dennis Opiña, Rogelio Siapian, Mary Ann Velasco, and Jaime de Guzman, reassigned as head supervisors of NAIA 1, 2 3, and 4, respectively.
- Nenita Inciong, Jemma Driz, Ricardo Sarao, and Sheila Rosacay, deputies of the four NAIA head supervisors.

Named supervisors of other airports outside Manila were:
- Ma. Rhodora Abrazaldo (Clark)
- Atty. Francis Oca (Laoag)
- Marlene Pedrealba (Mactan)
- Atty. Nimfa Edroso (Davao)
- Arlen Racho (Kalibo)
- Noel Bangeles (Iloilo)
- Milagros Repulda (Zamboanga).
Mison said he expects the move to help prevent suspected human trafficking victims from leaving and illegal, undesirable aliens from entering the country.
He added the assignments of BI personnel at airports will be rotated regularly to prevent fraternization, which has been tagged as a source of corruption among employees. — LBG, GMA News
