Laban Pilipinas: Philippines bids to host 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup

The Philippines is set to make a bid to host the biggest basketball tournament in the world in 2019.

 

On his Twitter account, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president and telecommunications mogul Manuel V. Pangilinan confirmed the development, saying: "Let's host!"

 

The Philippines is coming off a successful hosting of the FIBA Asia Championship last year. That tournament saw the Gilas Pilipinas national team win the silver medal and qualify for this year's edition of the FIBA World Cup in Spain.

 

The next edition of the basketball version of the World Cup happens in five years instead of the usual four, as international basketball body FIBA revised its calendar for major tournaments. The World Cup will also serve as a qualifier for the next year's Olympic basketball competition. — JST, GMA News
