Director Dominic Zapata hints at ‘My Husband’s Lover Part 2’

Dahil abala si Direk Dominic Zapata sa sitcom na "Ismol Family," hudyat na ba ito na hindi na niya magagawa ang Part 2 ng "My Husband’s Lover"?

Si Dominic ang direktor ng nasabing phenomenal hit GMA primetime series noong 2013 at tinampukan nina Dennis Trillo, Carla Abellana, at Tom Rodriguez.

Napapabalita kasing magkakaroon ng sequel ang "My Husband's Lover," pero itinanggi ng direktor ang balitang gagawin itong isang pelikula.

“Hindi, hindi movie,” sabi ni Direk Dom nang makausap ng PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) sa taping ng "Ismol Family."

So, magkakaroon nga ng Part 2 ang "My Husband's Lover"?

Saad ni Direk Dom, “Not soon, pero we’re not closing the doors…

"Even if I’m not authorized to say so, nothing is final yet.

"What I think is that there’s so much opportunities that MHL would present, but I’m not even just looking at that.

"Nung ginawa namin ang MHL, ang daming nag-out sa akin through text, mga kaibigan ko.

"I felt like I was no longer involved in entertainment, I was in the business of touching lives.

“For me, that puts things into perspective as an artist.

"Bihirang-bihirang mangyari sa iyo 'yun, e.

"So, if I was able to touch some lives for a run of a few months, maybe I could touch more lives."

Patuloy niya, “What I’m trying to say is that MHL would be a great venue for the LGBT [lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders].

"Ayoko naman 'yung isa lang siya, 'tapos natapos na.

 

"And then, a whole generation would pass na hindi na naman mare-represent 'yung mga kapatid nating ganun.

“It’s a venue for us to understand who they are, what they go through, that we share the same feelings.

"I like that whole idea na binibigyan natin sila ng venue.

"So if there’s a chance that we could do it again, let’s do so.

“I’m not the only one, I think, who is undyingly fighting for a sequel or something similar to that.

“I’m sure other people would want to do it.

"Kasi nung ginawa namin, I received more positive feedbacks than negative.

“So, I think, we were doing the right thing and, modesty aside, kung gagawa ulit, ako na lang, ako na lang po pagawain ninyo.

“Hindi ko sinabing perpekto yung nagawa ko, kasi may mga pagkakamali rin ako."

Gay sensitivity

May learning process din daw na pinagdaanan si Direk Dom nang ginagawa niya ang "My Husband's Lover."

Pahayag niya, "At least, I think I won’t commit those mistakes anymore and I’ve already gained the sensitivity required in making something for you, guys.”

"Sensitivity in the sense na, ‘A, ganito pala!’

“Dati kasi, you don’t really sit down and delve into the emotions of a gay person or a lesbian, only because you didn’t have to.

“You only talk to them at a superficial level, magkaibigan lang kayo, ganun lang 'yung sensitivity mo.

"Pero 'yung sensitivity when they're falling in love, how difficult it is for them, 'yung buhay nila, iyon 'yung natutunan ko nung ginagawa ko na 'yung soap.

“Kasi nung ginagawa ko na 'yung soap, tawag ako nang tawag sa mga kaibigan kong gay.

 

"I just wasn’t asking for one person’s opinion, kailangan iba-iba.

“Kasi minsan, iko-contest ng isang gay, 'Hindi, hindi namin gagawin yun!’

"Yung mga kaibigan kong gay, gagawin naman daw nila.’

“So, kumporme siguro sa ano.

"'Yung learnings na 'yun, sayang naman kung nasa isip ko na lang.

"I might as well be able to share it."

Being understood

Ano ang pakiramdam na maraming nag-out sa kanya na gay sila, may pressure ba?

Ayon sa direktor, “Not really pressure but… I don’t see it as such, parang it makes me feel more vigilant in everything that I was doing.

"People weren’t just watching to be entertained, people were crying their hearts out.

"Feeling for the first time na parang, ‘Naiintindihan na nila ako. May nakakapanood na, may nakakaintindi na nung nangyayari sa akin.’

“And these are friends of mine who are not even in the country, na lumayo na kasi nga hindi sila makakapag-out dito, they’re abroad.

"‘I’m doing a marathon [watching of MHL] for the past week! Iyak ako nang iyak, hindi ako makapasok sa trabaho kasi puyat ako.’

"Kung sa ganun man lang they would feel less alone or they would feel that they are understood, then by all means, let’s do another one!”

Nominated ang "My Husband’s Lover" sa 9th Seoul International Drama Awards (Serial Drama Category) na gaganapin sa September 4 sa National Theater of Korea. A-attend ba si Direk Dom?

 

“Sana, pero kung hindi man, I’m just glad na represented tayo.

“MHL will provide the heart, Korea will provide the soul [Seoul]!” pagpapatawa pa niya.

Challenged

Samantala, sa "Ismol Family" na pinagbibidahan nina Carla Abellana (as Majay) at Ryan Agoncillo (as Jingo) ay may gay character rin, si Bernie na ginagampanan ni Mikael Daez.

Sabi ni Direk Dom, “Iyon ang medyo siguro challenge sa akin… ngayon iba na akong magbigay ng bading, parang ayokong nababastos na sila.”

Tagong bading rin si Bernie sa "Ismol Family," 'tulad ng character ni Tom Rodriguez bilang si Vincent sa "My Husband's Lover."

“Medyo nalilito pa siya, nako-confuse pa siya. “Pero ang peg niya siguro, si Eric [Dennis Trillo’s character in MHL] in the earlier days nung mas bata-bata pa si Eric.

"Kasi si Vincent, medyo dumire-diretso na straight lang siya.

“Si Eric, nung nag-States lang siya ng matagal 'tsaka na siya umano.”

Bukod sa "Ismol Family," na napapanood tuwing Linggo ng gabi, ay nagsimula na rin si Direk Dominic na mag-taping ng bagong soap opera niya sa GMA, ang "Hiram Na Alaala."
