A three-year-old girl was killed in a Barangay Mabolo, Naga City residential fire last Saturday, according to a report on GMA News TV's "Balita Pilipinas Ngayon".

Firefighters theorized that the victim, Caszophia Benjamin, suffocated.

"Yung pinto grabe na yung sunog. Nag-a-attempt sanang sumaklolo yung pinsan at uncle. Wala na silang magawa kasi yung kwarto kung nasaan yung bata, nasusunog na. Hindi na sila makapasok," said Naga City central fire station chief of operations SFO4 Benhur Caronan.

The home's old and substandard electrical connections had caused the fire. Caronan said the home was built in 1982, and that the family did not have the connections checked.

Meanwhile, 25 homes or P1.5 million in property was destroyed in Barangay Bago Aplaya, Davao City fire also last Saturday.

GMA Davao speculated that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.

The Bureau of Fire Protection said that the fire had spread quickly due to a strong wind. — Joel Locsin/DVM, GMA News
