The Department of Agriculture has advised farmers and fishermen in Eastern VIsayas to harvest crops and fish early amid the threat from Typhoon Chedeng (Maysak), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Thursday evening.

In its 6 p.m. update, the NDRRMC said the DA Region 8 activated its command center and quick response team in anticipation of the threat from Chedeng.

Farmers and fishermen in the region were advised for "advance harvest and securing agri-inputs and livestock," it said.

The DA also activated its quick response centers and ensured all "harvestable" crops are harvested. It also relocated livestock to safer places.

Chedeng entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility Wednesday night and is expected to bring rain to parts of the country starting Friday.

It is then expected to make landfall over the Aurora-Isabela area late Saturday or early Sunday, then cross Northern Luzon before exiting the PAR Monday afternoon.

For its part, the Department of Health prepositioned P2.749 million in logistics in regional offices, and placed all regional offices except Ilocos and Davao on Code White alert. Ilocos and Davao are on blue alert.

For its part, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources' Mines and Geosciences Bureau in Central Luzon oriented local officials on landslide-prone areas in the eastern part, especially Aurora, Nueva Ecija, and Bulacan.

The MGB in Ilocos sent hazard notices to Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.

Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs activated its action center and issued a memorandum circular to concerned offices to be on standby and to observe protocols in international humanitarian operations. — Joel Locsin/BM, GMA News
