A five-day ordeal finally ended Thursday for more than 200 residents of Dagupan City in Pangasinan who were evacuated due to flooding, as they were finally allowed to return home.

The families had stayed at the Dagupan City People's Astrodome for five days due to floods caused by monsoon rain, GMA Dagupan's Joanne Ponsoy reported.

"Manageable na sa kanilang mga bahay. May baha pero di ganun kataas," said Bernard Cabison, a technical consultant of the Dagupan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

But for some of the evacuees, they would still need to cope with floods even after they were allowed to return home. Evacuee Arnold Cariño said he has to get around in a balsa (boat) to get to work.

"Dati hanggang dibdib, ngayon tuhod na lang," he said. — Joel Locsin/BM, GMA News
