The Department of Health has declared dengue outbreaks in two cities in Negros Occidental.

According to a "GMA News TV Live" report, the DOH's Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit has recorded an increase in dengue cases in Guihulngan and Canlaon.

The World Health Organization defines an outbreak as "the occurrence of cases of disease in excess of what would normally be expected in a defined community, geographical area or season."

Between July and August, 97 dengue cases have been reported in Guihulngan while 76 cases have been recorded in Canlaon.

The DOH has sent chemically-treated mosquito nets to the affected areas and has reminded the public to clean their surroundings, especially places where mosquitos can breed.

Over the weekend a dengue outbreak was also declared in Bulacan province, where close to 3,000 cases of the disease have been recorded since January. — JDS, GMA News
