300 drug suspects in Zambo Sur stage parade in mass surrender
Some 300 self-confessed drug users and pushers in Zamboanga del Sur voluntarily "shamed" themselves as they marched on Thursday to the police station to surrender.
GMA News stringer Aude Hampong on Unang Balita said the alleged drug suspects carried tarpaulins with inscriptions asking for public understanding, and that they are serious in their intention to change their ways and become law-abiding citizens.
Also, the writings on the tarpaulins expressed their fear of "summary executions," which prompted them to surrender voluntarily.
They also promised to turn away from illegal drugs and help authorities in the campaign against drug abuse, the report added.
Citing information, the report said some of those who surrendered told the police who their drugs suppliers were.
The police released all the 300 alleged suspects after they signed an affidavit for their voluntary surrender. —LBG/KG, GMA News
