Two minors die after drowning in river in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan
Two girls drowned and died after they fell into the Chalo River in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan recently, an exclusive report on Unang Balita on Wednesday said.
The body of Angelica Posio, 14, was retrieved from the waterway on October 16, GMA News' Jay Sabale reported.
The next day, the body of Angelica's sister Ronalyn, 16, was found in the river in the next barangay by Rescue 119 and local government personnel.
The Posio sisters fell into the river a day after Typhoon Lawin cut across Luzon.
Their two friends who were with them at the time of the accident said their parents already told them to avoid going near the river due to the strong current.
They said they were planning to swim in the river but did not push through due to the strong current.
Ronalyn, however, fell into the river. Angelica was swept away by the current, one of their friends said.
"Dapat nilalagyan nila ng 'Danger Zone' at hindi naman dapat paliguan ng mga bata. At delikado talaga itong area na ito," Sgt. Renato Pedroche, rescue officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, said.
The victims' mother, who just arrived from working in Saudi Arabia, urged children of overseas Filipino workers to heed their parents' warnings.
The wake for the Posio sisters is now on its 10th day but the family has yet to raise enough funds for their burial. —KG, GMA News
