Heavy rains hamper Surigao quake recovery
A week after the magnitude-6.7 earthquake struck, Surigao residents have not yet fully recovered.
This, as heavy rains hampered the recovery and relief operations in Surigao del Norte and other nearby areas.
Despite rains, relief goods were still transported to the barangays of Aurora and Lisondra, Surigao City on Thursday, GMA News’ Vonne Aquino said in an Unang Balita report on Friday.
According to the barangay captain of Aurora, fishermen could not sail due to bad weather so they experienced food shortage.
Water coming from the faucets is also murky because of the rain, so most residents have been relying on bottled water included in food packs.
Meanwhile, in Barangay Luna, over 1,000 food packs were distributed to affected residents, the report said.
Several families in the barangay were also evacuated following small landslides due to heavy rain in Bernadette Village.
The Surigao City government has declared an Alert Level 1 status after PAGASA issued a Yellow Rainfall Warning in Caraga Region on Thursday.
