DepEd postpones opening of classes in 8 barangays in Lanao del Sur, Iligan City
The Department of Education (DepEd) on Thursday said the opening of classes in eight barangays in Lanao del Sur and Iligan City will be postponed for two weeks at the most.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones said this was upon the recommendation of authorities in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Four barangays in Lanao del Sur and four barangays in Iligan City will not observe the nationwide opening of classes for school year 2017-2018 on Monday, June 5.
Briones added that this is also due to the fear of spillover from the ongoing clashes between government troops and the Maute group in Marawi City.
However, Briones refused to name the affected barangays.
