Police official in viral amok video relieved from post
The chief of the Bansalan Police Station in Davao del Sur was removed from his post after a video of him showing unruly behavior in a bar in Tres de Mayo, Digos City, went viral on social media.
A civilian-clad Senior Inspector Florante Retes is seen on the video screaming at the bar's female owner and at the other patrons during a confrontation.
A report by GMA News stringer Real Soroche on 24 Oras, citing the bar's owner, said Retes also became violent.
"Sinita niya ako. Sabi niya, sino amo ko. Tapos inagaw niya ang isang case ng beer na may laman. Tapos tinapon niya. Nabasag 'yung apat," the bar owner said.
A witness said Retes appeared to be intoxicated during his outburst.
Retes was immediately relieved from his position by the Davao del Sur Provincial Police Office (PPO).
"Immediately ni-relieve namin siya to give way sa investigation," said Davao del Sur PPO deputy provincial director for administration Superintendent Deozar Almasa.
Retes' camp has reportedly come to an arrangement with the bar owner regarding the incident.
Retes, who was detained at the Davao del Sur PPO holding area, has yet to comment on the incident. —Margaret Claire Layug/KBK, GMA News
