Fairview police station commander relieved from post after personnel tests positive for illegal drug use
The station commander of the Fairview Police Station (PS-5) has been relieved from his post after one of his policemen assigned with the Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) tested positive for illegal drug use.
PS-5 commander Superintendent Tomas Nuñez was relieved along with the chief of the SDEU Senior Inspector Danilo Songalia upon the recommendation of Quezon City Police District director Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar.
Their relief was approved by National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Oscar Albayalde.
Guillermo said Police Officer 1 Gabby Tumaliuan Bulan, assigned at the SDEU, was found positive for illegal drug use during a surprise drug test in Camp Karingal last February 19.
The surprise drug test, which is part of the internal cleansing of the QCPD, was conducted to a total of 331 personnel who are mostly assigned to anti-illegal drug units.
"Bilang mga drug busters, kailangan na sila mismo ay maging ehemplo. Hindi puwede na sila yung manghuhuli sa mga involved sa illegal drugs, tapos sila mismo ay gumagamit pala. At kailanman ay hindi natin i-tolerate ang mga ganitong gawain, sapagkat paano tayo pagkakatiwalaan ng publiko kung may mga kasamahan tayong involved sa illegal drugs," Eleazar was quoted as saying in a press release.
"The relief of the station commander should also serve as a reminder to all other officers especially those assigned in anti-illegal drug units to be always vigilant over their personnel," he added.
Superintendent Francisco of the QCPD crime laboratory confirmed that Bulan had tested positive for illegal drug use after a confirmatory test.
Bulan, meanwhile, is now under restrictive custody and was transferred to the District Headquarters Support Unit.
He was also ordered to surrender his badge, Philippine National Police ID and service firearm pending administrative and criminal investigation. — Marlly Rome Bondoc/RSJ, GMA News
