The Philippine National Police (PNP) has relieved 24 police officers in Mimaropa region from their respective posts over their alleged poor performance in the government's anti-illegal drug campaign.

Mimaropa regional director Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Luis Licup approved the recommendation of the  Oversight Committee on Illegal Drugs on the immediate relief of the 24 police officers-in-charge and chiefs of police who either had "no or low accomplishment" in the anti-illegal drug campaign.

The oversight committee chaired by Senior Superintendent Ferdinand Garay, PNP deputy regional director for operations, said in their recommendation that the "officers failed to meet the requirements set forth by the oversight committee on the number of accomplishment in their anti-illegal drugs operation."

The committee unanimously agreed to recommend the relief of the officers-in-charge and chiefs of police in the following municipalities:

  • Oriental Mindoro (Municipalities of Bongabong, Bulalacao, San Teodoro, and Mansalay);
  • Occidental Mindoro (Municipalities of Looc, Lubang, Calintaan, Paluan, and Abra de Ilog);
  • Mariduque (Municipality of Sta. Cruz);
  • Romblon (Municipalities of Alcantara, Calatrava, San Agustin, Sta Fe, and Ferro);
  • Palawan (Municipalities of Aborlan, Agutaya, Balabac, Bataraza, Brooke's Point, Culion, Linapacan, and Quezon); and
  • Puerto Princesa City (Irawan Police Station)

Licup, meanwhile, reminded the 53 remaining officers-in-charge and chiefs of police to "triple their efforts on their anti-criminality operations especially on illegal drugs."

He also warned that they will face the same fate if they fail to meet the requirements set by the oversight committee. —Marlly Rome Bondoc/KBK, GMA News
