Residents of Tanauan City, Batangas on Sunday morning gathered to pay their last respects to and attend the funeral of their mayor Antonio Halili.

The St. John the Evangelist Parish was already filled with mourners, many of them wearing yellow, even before the remains of Halili arrived for the Mass, according to a report by Allan Gatus of Super Radyo dzBB.

Mourners stood along Mabini Avenue waiting for the hearse.

Relatives stood by as the coffin was carried out of the hearse and brought inside the church.

A Mass was held at the parish followed by necrological services at the city hall before the interment.

According to a report on Balitanghali by Tricia Zafra, Halili's remains were brought to the city hall before 11 a.m.

Many townmates and supporters, many of them wearing yellow with messages calling for justice, shed tears during the necrological services and public viewing.

The mayor's wife and their daughter Angeline kissed Halili's body when the coffin lid was lifted.

The burial will be held at Loyola Gardens.
