12-year-old says she was raped by man she met on Facebook

A 19-year-old man was arrested after a 12-year-old girl who met him through Facebook said that he raped her.

In a report on GMA News' "24 Oras Weekend" on Sunday, the girl said that she attended a wake on Saturday night. However, due to the curfew on minors, she decided to instead spend the night at Joey Geronimo's place.

She had met the 19-year-old on Facebook in November and he lived nearby.

It was there, said the girl—given the pseudonym "Jenny" in the report—said that Geronimo raped her early morning on Sunday.

"Nagsisisi po ako, kasi mali po 'yung nagawa ko," she said.

Her mother, who remained unidentified, had to restrain herself as she faced Geronimo after her daughter confided what happened.

"Hinahatid-sundo ko po, para po... 'Yun nga po ang iniingatan ko na mangyari sa kanya. Nagpepenitensya ako ng ganon," she said.

Geronimo insisted that she was the one who came on to him and that the two of them had been romantically involved for a month.

"Hindi ko pinilit, tsaka siya po mismo ang nanghahalik una sa akin," he said of the 12-year-old.

Barangay officials are now looking into the matter.

"Para po masabi natin na rape 'yung kaso is kailangan po siya mag-undergo ng medico legal," said Sunshine Dogew, Police Office I and Investigator of the Women's Desk of the Sampaloc Police. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
