6 hurt in Quezon City fire
Six were hurt in a fire that reached the highest alarm in Barangay Damayang Lagi in Quezon City on Wednesday afternoon.
Super Radyo dzBB's Glen Juego reported that the fire broke out in Block 5 of Barangay Damayang Lagi at 1:27 p.m. and reached the third alarm at past 2 p.m.
According to a separate report on GMA News TV's "Quick Response Team," the fire reached the General Alarm around 3 p.m. before it was put out at 5:12 p.m.
Around 750 families were affected by the fire and the estimated cost of damage amounts to P2 million.
Authorities said that the General Alarm, which requires all available firetrucks to respond, was declared due to the low water pressure of fire hydrants in the area.
The strong winds also allowed the fire to spread faster and burn around 200 establishments.
"Nagsimula kasi sa bandang gitna 'yung sunog at nadamay 'yung mga nasa palibot na bahay," said Bureau of Fire Protection director Leonard Bañago.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire which started on the third floor of a house.
The affected residents are temporarily staying at the parking lot of a nearby private hospital.
In 2015, Barangay Damayang Lagi was also hit by a fire that claimed nine lives. Another huge fire incident happened in the area in 2017, leaving 700 families homeless. — Dona Magsino/RSJ, GMA News
