'My Special Tatay' actor Ken Chan leads World Autism Awareness Day celebration
"My Special Tatay" may have ended but Ken Chan's support for people with special needs continues on.
According to Cata Tibayan's report on 24 Oras, Ken Chan led the lighting of the Big Dome in Smart Araneta Coliseum in blue for the celebration of the World Autism Awareness Day.
The actor who played the role of "Boyet", a man with special needs said that it was such an honor to give voice to the people with autism through his show.
According to the report, Ken Chan's character "Boyet" made an important impact in making society understand the lives and journey of the people who do have autism.
Ken Chan said that he recently encountered a mother who had a 5-year old son with autism in a mall.
Ken narrated the experience saying, "Niyakap niya ako ng mahigpit. Sinabi niya, 'Maraming salamat, Ken Chan. Salamat kasi tinutulungan mo kami through 'My Special Tatay'."
Ken said that he looked for the son and eventually went over the mother's place. He said, "Pinuntahan namin and a 5 year-old biglang tumakbo sakin, pinag-kikiss ako sa mukha ko. Para akong matutunaw sa sobrang saya ng pakiramdam ko dahil sa ginawa ng bata na merong autism."
He added, "Ang sarap sa pakiramdam dahil nakikilala ka nila bilang inspirasyon nila."
During the event where Ken also performed a song number for the students of the Open Hands School, 2019 Binibining Pilipinas candidates were also present to interact with those with autism. — Kaela Malig/LA, GMA News
