Lines at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminals were consistently long on Wednesday for passengers leaving and arriving in the country for vacation amid the Holy Week.

From April 8 to April 16, around 1.2 million passengers have left the NAIA terminals 1, 2 and 3 for domestic and international flights, according to a "24 Oras" report by JP Soriano.

The most number left last Friday and Saturday.

"Mukhang nagbago ng travel strategy ang ating mga pasahero. Inagahan na nila 'yung bakasyon. Probably most of them have filed their leave of absence way ahead of time. Kaya 'yung ine-expect namin na volume ngayon is not as many as in the previous years," said Connie Bungag, spokesperson of MIAA.

Among the OFWs who arrived on Wednesday was Christy Ando, who was excitedly welcomed by her daughter. She worked in Hong Kong for four years and her daughter was still a baby when she left the Philippines.

Mari Anne Alcantara, also an OFW, meanwhile, spent 14 years in Hong Kong and was not able to see her child graduate this year from junior high school.

"Para naman sa kanya, 'yung mga sacrifices. Mabait 'yang anak ko na 'yan, mature mag-isip," Alcantara said.

Meanwhile, Kimberly Guardian, who has a trip to Iloilo and Guimaras, was spotted in Terminal 3 already wearing her swimsuit.

"Spend time sa family at the same time 'yung pagninilay din sa Panginoon," Guardian said.

"Time with family lang po muna kasi siyempre magulo dito sa Pilipinas, para makapag relax-relax din at sobrang init," Kezia Aquino, who is going to Seoul, South Korea, said. —Jamil Santos/LDF, GMA News
