8 killed, 8 others hurt in Zamboanga del Sur vehicular accident

Eight people were killed while eight others were injured following a vehicular accident in Pitogo, Zamboanga del Sur on Sunday.

An initial information reaching Camp Crame on Monday stated that the accident occurred at Purok 1 in Barangay Liguac. According to the Pitogo Municipal Police Station, the accident, which involved an elf truck loaded with huge timbers, was due to mechanical brake failure.

Most of those on board the truck were laborers, police said.

The injured individuals were brought to the Hospital of Margosatubig for proper medication.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck surrendered to authorities. He will be facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide and multiple physical injuries.
