Residents playing mahjong nabbed amid COVID-19 quarantine in Maguindanao

Four residents of a barangay in Upi, Maguindanao were arrested after they were caught playing mahjong amid the enhanced community quarantine being implemented to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

According to GMA News’ COVID-19 Bulletin, authorities arrested four residents after they were caught playing mahjong at a house in Barangay Nuro Poblacion.

Seized at the scene were a mahjong set and P700.

The four will face charges for violation of the Anti-Illegal Gambling Act and the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.

The national government has implemented the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon until April 30 to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Some provinces in Visayas and Mindanao also placed their areas under strict quarantine.
