NCRPO on full alert as Sara Duterte impeachment trial starts

The National Capital Region Police Office is on full alert status amid the scheduled start of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday afternoon.

NCRPO spokesperson Major Hazel Asilo said they have been on full alert since 5 p.m. Sunday.

"Effective 5 p.m., July 5, full alert na po (ang) NCRPO," Asilo said in a message to GMA News Online.

The Philippine National Police said Sunday that 6,630 police personnel have been deployed to secure the Senate impeachment proceedings.

A total of 3,250 police officers were deployed in key areas surrounding the Senate, while 2,900 Civil Disturbance Management personnel will remain on standby for immediate augmentation should the situation require.

The PNP said the deployment will cover the north, front, and south sections of J.W. Diokno Boulevard to maintain public order, assist motorists and pedestrians, and ensure the uninterrupted flow of lawful activities.

A Special Task Group was also activated to oversee police operations before, during, and after the proceedings.

The PNP has also installed additional CCTV cameras in strategic locations, finalized traffic rerouting plans in coordination with concerned agencies, and identified nearby hospitals to ensure prompt emergency medical response if needed.

Meanwhile, the Pasay City government temporarily closed a stretch of Diokno Boulevard near the Senate during the trial.

The closure will cover both northbound and southbound lanes from Seaside Boulevard to Atang dela Rama Street, including intersections along the affected stretch.

The traffic scheme will take effect starting July 6 and will be enforced every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.—AOL, GMA News
