MANILA, Philippines - “I deserve to be an ambassador.” These were the words of Cristina Ponce-Enrile to those who are openly opposing her appointment as Philippine Ambassador to the Vatican City. “I cannot please everybody. There are people who are for you and there are those who are against you,” she told reporters Tuesday. To recall, some members of the influential Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) have expressed reservation on the appointment of Mrs Enrile, wife of Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile, due to morality issues. Besides the objection, some prelates raised questions on the “canonical integrity” of Mrs Enrile’s marital status, saying it is already tainted. Mrs Enrile, on the other hand, denied that she and her husband are already separated, saying she has no idea what morality issues are being leveled against her. She also said she wants to prove herself when she takes over the position from outgoing Ambassador Leonida Vera. “It will be done all in Vatican. It’s not here. Problems that are religious in nature or charitable thing… Those are the problem that I will face,” Mrs Enrile said. - GMANews.TV
