MANILA, Philippines - Two Filipino fishermen were rescued on Helen Reef, a deserted island in the Republic of Palau, the Marianas Variety reported on Wednesday. According to the report, Palauâs patrol boat PSS Remeliik rescued the Filipinos identified as Johnny Brocoy and Elmar Berrera. The two who were brought to Koror town are now under the custody of the Philippine Embassy in Palau headed by Ambassador Ramoncito Mariño. The Variety quoted Mariño as saying that the two were stranded on Helenâs Reef for four days. They reportedly got separated from their mother ship, FV Dodong Louie, after the engine of their small boat malfunctioned and drifted toward Helenâs Reef due to bad weather. Mariño also reportedly said that the Filipinos were working for a fishing company based in Mindanaoâs General Santos City. A certain Ernesto Rebosa owns the firm, according to the report. The Embassy had been communicating with the employer for the repatriation of the Filipinos, the Variety said. - GMANews.TV
