Pinoys in Ireland lauded for strong family values
Aside from their contributions to the Irish community, Filipinos in Ireland received praise for their religious values and deep family ties. At a Mass at St. Maryâs Church in County Donegal, Fr. Kieran McAteer lauded the Filipino community for practicing Christian values. âIreland is not a country of saints and scholars. When you came here to earn a living, we learned a lot from you on how you value your family, your rich culture, your religiosity and your ability to stand up despite the recent tragedies that ravaged your country." Excerpts of his homily were posted on the Catholic Bishopsâ Conference of the Philippines Website. McAteer reminded the faithful to respond to Godâs call readily like Mary. âAt times, we are afraid to say yes to God or we donât want to listen to His call," he said. The Filipinos in County Donegal celebrated last December 8 their 6th Annual Filipino Day with its theme âBastaât sama-sama, Kayang-kaya." Such a theme has captured the true Filipino spirit of having a positive outlook in life despite the tragic events their fellow Filipinos are now facing at home, McAteer said. During the event, Filipinos and some Irish participants entertained visitors from neighboring counties with dances and songs. - GMANews. - LBG, GMANews.TV
