Palace mourns Flavier’s death: He championed quality public health care

This was how Malacañang described the late former Senator and Health Secretary Juan Flavier, who passed away on Thursday afternoon.
 
In a statement, Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma recalled Flavier's accomplishments as a public official.
 
"We join the Filipino people in mourning the death of former Senator and Health Secretary Juan Flavier. As a public servant, he championed the cause of countryside development and upgrading the quality of public health care," Coloma said.
 
The Palace official also commended Flavier for his "simplicity, jovial character and common touch."
 
"He served with integrity and endeared himself to the by dint of his humility," the communications secretary said.
 
The 79-year-old former public official succumbed on Thursday afternoon to multiple organ failure and sepsis brought about by pneumonia.
 
Flavier was Health chief from July 1992 to January 1995, under the administration of then-President Fidel Ramos. Flavier also served as senator from 1995 to 2007.
