At least two people were killed in Bicol in the wake of heavy rain brought by Tropical Storm Amang (Mekkhala), the Office of Civil Defense in the region said.
The OCD Bicol said one death was recorded in Catanduanes and another in Camarines Norte, GMA Bicol's Maila Aycocho and Mark Bongat reported Tuesday.
It added Amang caused at least P3.9 million in damage to agriculture in the region, affecting some 2,000 hectares of land.
Meanwhile, several landslides were reported in parts of the region in the wake of Amang.
In Sta. Elena town in Camarines Norte, several vehicles were stranded at a portion of Maharlika Highway in Barangay Rizal. Motorists said they were stranded 16 hours.
Two bulldozers from the local government unit were deployed to remove the obstruction.
Landslides were also recorded in Sitio Lobo in Tabugon town in Camarines Norte; and in Barangay Rizal in Sorsogon City.
No one was initially reported injured in the two landslides, and the Department of Public Works and Highways immediately conducted clearing operations.
OCD Bicol head Bernardo Rafael Alejandro IV said they are waiting for the DPWH's report. He cited initial information that landslides also occurred in Paracale and Catanduanes. — Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
